The design of the Ice Cave is inspired by the need for an exhibition space that can showcase the features, details, and replicas of the Tehran Eye project. The location of the section on the first floor and the use of two skylights for natural light provided exclusive conditions for the design of a cave space. The emphasis of the space design was focused on the roof and columns, elements that provided a suitable basis for the design of this space.
The unique properties of the design are realized through the use of minimal surfaces, creating an attractive yet neutral atmosphere for showcasing the project's predicted function. The design is realized using a three-axis CNC machine, with the surface divided into several panels. The method of installing panels and details of connecting to the main structure has also been taken into consideration.
The Ice Cave project started in April 2016 in Tehran, Iran, and finished in June 2018. It served as a sales office for selling stores of the Tehran Eye Commercial and entertainment complex. The project faced several design challenges, including construction constraints, facilities, and the green wall section. However, these challenges were overcome through extensive research and study.
The Ice Cave is a showroom for a client who needed a space with unique quality. The space required for different uses is formed based on foreign forces in the up and down direction exerted on the surface. For fabrication, this surface has been divided into 329 panels.
The design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. The award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
